Working at Atlassian

Atlassian can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Assuming you have eligible working rights and a sufficient time zone overlap with your team, you can choose to work remotely or from an office (unless it’s necessary for your role to be performed in the office). Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
Our office is in Bengaluru, but we offer flexibility for eligible candidates to work remotely across India. Whatever your preference—working from home, an office, or in between— you can choose the place that’s best for your work and your lifestyle.

Your future team

You'll join our Tenant Platform organisation within the Cloud Infrastructure department at Atlassian. Tenant Platform is core to allowing the concept of multi tenancy in our cloud architecture. We provide a platform used by all of Atlassian's products which enables concepts such as the creation of new tenancy at signup, management of the tenant lifecycle (licence changes, product suspension, deletion, etc), customer self-administration, and tenant operations at runtime.
We're hiring a Principal Engineer reporting to a Senior Engineering Manager. You'll join a brand new team in India, whose mission is to build the next generation of unified operations platform with a self-serve ability, and a one-stop shop for all our production systems. The platform will offer top-notch assurance for system operations, high reliability, and ease of system integration. This is a rapidly growing area where you will have the opportunity to help shape the success of Atlassian's current and growing products suite and overall inspire company growth goals on our cloud journey.
We'd love you to bring new ideas to our engineering culture, and besides our awesome group of collaborating teams in Tenant Platform, you'll get to work with a huge variety of other teams across Atlassian, as our services have a lot of internal customers!

What you'll do
  • Tackle complex problems on the team, from technical design to launch
  • Architect, design, and develop features for tenant platforms as a full-stack engineer
  • Work with the engineering and business teams to define a long-term vision and company-wide initiatives spanning multiple projects
  • Drive technical decisions and build end-user experiences
  • Define engineering roadmap, engage with senior engineers on reviews and brainstorming sessions
  • Influence the leadership team and propose a technical vision to support future needs
  • Focus on solutions to help reduce the operational burden and tech debt, improve feature velocity and system health

Your background
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience
  • You are an engineer at heart with experience driving and delivering large (multi-geo, multi-team) and complex projects.
  • Strong experience in object-oriented programming (eg Java/Kotlin/Spring), we'll expect you to coach developers on these, but specific language experience is not a prerequisite
  • You have hands-on experience with front-end SPA frameworks (eg react, vue, angular or similar), js/typescript, html5, css3, nodejs, webpack, and cypress.
  • AWS knowledge (databases, storages, containers, dockers, CI/CD, cloud integration) or similar experience with other public cloud offerings (e.g. Google, Azure)
  • Knowledge of distributed systems concepts (scaling, consistency and availability tradeoffs)
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
  • Last but not least, you are a team player. You understand that the team is bigger than any individual and are able to coach and grow other engineers in the team

Our perks benefits

To support you at work and play, our perks and benefits include ample time off, an annual education budget, paid volunteer days, and so much more.
