Canva’s performance-monitoring work helps frontend engineers understand and improve real-user performance at enormous scale. About the role

The Senior Frontend Engineer builds performance-monitoring products and infrastructure using React, TypeScript, Node.js, OpenTelemetry, browser performance tooling, and large-scale telemetry data.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain lightweight SDKs, dashboards, and CI/PR checks that surface important web-performance metrics.
• Embed OpenTelemetry standards and extend pipelines that ingest very large volumes of real-user events.
• Partner with platform and infrastructure teams to keep metric collection low-overhead and ship reusable libraries, CLIs, and tools.
• Build statistically informed regression checks that can flag or block changes that make performance worse, with developer-friendly reports.
• Investigate systemic bottlenecks using Chrome DevTools, Lighthouse, profiling, and related tools.
• Analyze real-user and synthetic data to identify high-value performance improvements.
• Improve the monitoring platform itself, including usability, reliability, observability, and developer workflows.

Qualifications

• Strong frontend engineering experience with React and TypeScript.
• Experience with browser-performance measurement, Web Vitals, profiling, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Node.js, SDK or tooling development, telemetry/observability systems, and CI/CD.
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry and large-scale event/data pipelines.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to collaborate across platform and infrastructure teams.
