About the role

We're looking for someone who:
  • Has 5+ years of experience as a full-time software engineer on consumer-facing or social media/GenZ-targeting tech platforms.
  • Has knowledge of Generative Ai models and has built something useful.
  • Has built products from the ground up using frontend frameworks like React, Next.js and Typescript and is familiar with building backend using Node.js, GraphQL, and Postgres (microservices or web frameworks).
  • 4+ years of experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, etc.
  • Not Required: A CS degree. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and don't believe you need a university degree to be an exceptional engineer.

  • You will push the quality and excellence bar by advocating for and practising engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing, code quality, security, and monitoring.
  • Your passion for your craft drives you to improve systems and code without being explicitly told.

About the company

Grandshake was founded in 2017 with a mission to help young people figure out what’s next before finishing high school. Grandshake has been a popular brand that attracts young people from 500+ Australian Secondary schools onto our platform. We have reached and influenced over 450,000 young people across Australia to date through our Career Exploration, Upskilling and Virtual Work Experience products.

We are raking in approx. $500k ARR (Q1 2023) with projections towards $1 mill ARR by the end of Q4 2023. We don't have all the answers, and this is not a company where you'll be given a set of tasks every week. Instead, we'll work together to understand customer needs and do everything necessary to address them. 

What’s next for Grand: 

We are building a Social Skiling platform for young people. Imagine TikTok meets LinkedIn - a social platform for GenZers to level up skills and build connections aka LinkedIn for pre and early professionals.

We have a GenZ-facing product to build and for that, we have a high-level game plan for the next 3 months, 6 months, and 2 years, and we are looking for a sharp engineer person to get down to brass tacks and execute.

About the interview
  • Intro call: a 30 mins chat about your background and past experiences and see if we're good fits for each other.
  • Casual chat: a 30 mins casual chat about your goals, more in-depth about your background, and discuss Grand value fit.
  • Technical deep dive: ~1-hour session around simple CRUD app using react + any backend language/framework of your choosing. OR a technical deep dive into one full-stack project you've built.
  • Technical screen: 1-hour live debugging or practical coding interview that simulates working at Grand. This could include but is not limited to making API calls, debugging live code, etc.
  • Final call: ~ 2 hours interview with a technical design question and behavioural/cultural questions.
