About the role

The Principal Software Engineer leads technical direction for Trellis, HubSpot’s design system and component library. The role combines hands-on React/TypeScript engineering with architecture, migration strategy, internal tooling, accessibility, and broad influence across frontend teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for the design system and reusable frontend component architecture.
• Build and evolve React and TypeScript components, APIs, patterns, and supporting infrastructure.
• Guide migrations to newer UI foundations and create tooling that helps teams adopt shared patterns safely.
• Improve accessibility, performance, consistency, testability, and developer experience across product surfaces.
• Partner with product engineers, designers, accessibility specialists, and platform teams across HubSpot.
• Use and improve AI-assisted frontend-development workflows and internal developer tooling.
• Mentor senior engineers and influence frontend architecture beyond a single team.

Compensation

US base range: $266,200 – $425,900.
