About the role:
We are the Platform Core Experiences group, responsible for building and maintaining the foundational features that tie our product lines together and the infrastructure that makes it possible.
We are looking for a Staff Engineer to help spearhead the technical direction for our teams and drive company-wide culture around UI/UX and front-end architecture best practices. You will work hand-in-hand with Product and Design to help raise the quality bar of all of our features and enable the launch of powerful, deeply-interconnected experiences across our products that are critical to the operations of our customers. These include, but are not limited to, some of the foundational and most popular pages in our web dashboard, which serve as launch points for the most important workflows in our customers’ Connected Operations.
As a Staff Engineer at Samsara, your technical leadership and expertise will also lend fresh ideas and guidance while working with our highly-skilled engineering community at large, and help push all of Samsara’s technical capabilities forward.
You should apply if:
- You want to impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
- You want to build for scale: With over 2.3 million IoT devices deployed to our global customers, you will work on a range of new and mature technologies driving scalable innovation for customers across industries driving the world's physical operations.
- You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals. Every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers that push us to learn on the go.
- You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes.
- You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we’re all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win—together.
In this role, you will be:
- Driving technology choices, implementing components, and/or establishing architectural patterns that have a broad and lasting impact on Samsara's products.
- Identifying opportunities and initiating strategic conversations to influence the direction of platform technology and engineering culture, and advocating for resourcing strategic platform initiatives.
- Architecting, designing, and developing software that enables Samsara’s customers to manage critical operations that impact the safety, sustainability and efficiency of their business.
- Leading teams in delivering products and capabilities that contribute to Samsara’s products and revenue.
- Delivering impact by solving the hardest technical problems and enabling products to reach the market quickly and successfully with high quality.
- Keep a platform-first approach while collaborating with our design and product teams to build products, tools and solutions.
- Acting as a multiplier for the team, elevating the impact and output of every team member, to advance Samsara’s culture of technical excellence.
- Contributing to Samsara’s engineering brand by representing Samsara in external-facing forums.
- Championing, role modeling, and embedding Samsara’s cultural principles (Obsess Over the Customer, Build for the Long Term, Growth Mindset, Be inclusive, Win as a team) as we scale globally.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- 10+ years of experience in front-end/Web software design, development, and algorithm related solutions with at least 2 of those years in an architect or technical leadership role
- Stellar programming/coding fundamentals

- Familiarity with other front-end technologies such as CSS, Webpack, Vite, Esbuild.
- Experience working with Product Management and Design teams to build and maintain component UI libraries.
