SAP’s AI engineering team is building Joule Work Desktop, an AI-powered desktop application for knowledge workers and business users. The product combines a TypeScript/React interface with an agent harness that executes multi-step tasks, connects to external services through MCP servers, and supports extensibility through skills.

About the role

This hands-on senior individual-contributor role spans both agent engineering and product-quality frontend development in a small, autonomous team with a strong bias toward rapid shipping.

Responsibilities

  • Extend and optimize the agent harness, including skill selection, tool use, MCP connectivity, correctness, speed, and security.
  • Build observability, tracing, explainability, and evaluation infrastructure to keep agent behavior reliable and auditable.
  • Ship user-facing product features in TypeScript and React across the desktop application.
  • Use AI-native engineering tools to accelerate implementation, review, testing, and delivery.
  • Iterate quickly while maintaining production quality across frontend and agent systems.

Required qualifications

  • Senior-level TypeScript and React experience with complex production UI applications.
  • Hands-on experience building, operating, or optimizing AI agents or agent harnesses.
  • Knowledge of tool-use patterns, MCP integrations, observability, explainability, and agent evaluation.
  • Daily experience with AI-centric development environments such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools.
  • Degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.

Preferred qualifications

  • LangGraph, LangChain, or similar orchestration frameworks.
  • Electron, Windows development, application security, sandboxing, or process isolation.
  • Track record of shipping AI-powered products to real users.

Employment: Regular full time; hybrid, Walldorf preferred with Munich or Berlin optional; expected travel 0–10%.
