Straight Arrow News (SAN) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, specializing in React Native, to join our growing team. We’re on a mission to raise the bar on journalism, and delivering world-class mobile apps are a key factor in fulfilling that mission.

As an SSE at Straight Arrow News, you will be part of a dynamic and innovative team that is mission-driven to redefine how people experience news. The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll lead the development of our React Native apps for iOS and Android. You’ll collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver reliable, fast, and engaging mobile experiences. Beyond writing code, you’ll help define best practices, mentor engineers, and contribute to technical decisions that support SAN’s mission of rebuilding trust in news.

What You’ll Do

Build new experiences that delight customers.
Improve the codebase by finding opportunities for performance optimization.
Guide the development team through collaboration, peer reviews, and mentoring.
Partner with product, design, and QA teams to create solutions to complex problems.
Optimize performance, accessibility, and reliability.
Work with web teams to ensure a consistent experience across devices.
Contribute to architecture and long-term technical strategy

What We’re Looking For

5+ years of professional software development experience, with 3+ years in React Native.
Strong customer focus; experience working on an enterprise, customer-facing application.
Strong understanding of mobile app performance, debugging, and optimization.
Solid background integrating APIs, SDKs, and third-party services,
Experience debugging native issues in iOS / android.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in common engineering tools and services, such as version control, package management, and CI/CD pipelines.

Nice to Have

Experience with Expo.
Experience with Wordpress API.
Experience working on the native layers (iOS and android)
Experience working with consent management systems.
Experience with analytics, experimentation, or personalization.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $140,000-$160,000.
