We're looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to join our Emerging Business Upwork Labs Division of Upwork. You will direct and oversee our software engineering teams and work with cross functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that exceed our customer's expectations.

Your Responsibilities:
- You build teams by recruiting, mentoring, and developing team members and encouraging a culture of Innovation, excellence and continuous improvement.
- You will manage the development and release of software products, including scheduling and coordinating the work of the engineering teams
- You will oversee the quality, performance, and scalability of the software products, including monitoring and analyzing performance metrics to identify areas for improvement
- You will build relationships with partners, stakeholders, and customers to ensure a clear understanding of their needs.
- You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as product managers, designers, and customer support, to provide high-quality software solutions on time and within budget.
- You will improve software development processes and engineering best practices, such as code reviews, testing, and incident management
- You will Identify technical risks and opportunities, communicate them with stakeholders, and develop mitigation strategies.
- You will keep up-to-date with industry trends and technologies to identify emerging opportunities.
What it Takes to Catch our Eye:
- You have delivered consumer products at scale across web and mobile clients
- You have designed and built microservice-based cloud apps and tuned for low-latency and high-reliability
- You have experience in Front-End Technologies such as Nuxt, React, Back-end technologies such as Java, conversational AI, Open AI and working knowledge of Cloud Technologies.
- You have led teams of 25-50 software engineers
- You have been responsible for executive-level communication regarding your teams
- Previous leadership role with executive level communication experience
- Knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile and Scrum, CI/CD release management and other operational excellence experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
- Experience with cloud-based technologies and SaaS applications.
You will need to Balance technical requirements with business needs and customer expectations.
The annual base salary for this position in California and Washington ranges from $164,000 - $281,000. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary for this position in California and Washington, and individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long term equity incentive program.
