OpenAI’s API Platform organization builds the products and infrastructure that help developers build with OpenAI models, including API primitives, SDKs, documentation, playgrounds, onboarding, examples, and production platform experiences.

About the role

This full-stack/frontend engineering role owns developer-facing experiences across frontend product surfaces, backend systems, SDK and documentation pipelines, and API workflows. The team works closely with product, design, research, API engineering, and developer-facing groups to make advanced AI capabilities understandable, testable, reliable, and safe to launch.

Responsibilities

• Build and scale the API Playground, documentation experiences, onboarding flows, examples, and API workflow tooling.
• Own full-stack projects from product definition and UX collaboration through backend implementation, launch, measurement, and iteration.
• Improve systems used to generate, maintain, and publish SDKs, API references, guides, and developer examples.
• Partner across API, research, design, and infrastructure teams to bring new model capabilities and API primitives to developers.
• Use developer feedback, analytics, and customer insight to identify friction and improve the API experience.
• Help set technical and product direction for the New York API Experience team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional engineering experience on product-oriented teams.
• Strong TypeScript, React, and modern web application experience.
• Proficiency with backend languages such as Python, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Experience with production APIs, services, databases, SDKs, documentation systems, or developer tooling.
• Strong product judgment, developer empathy, and attention to reliability, performance, accessibility, and maintainability.

Compensation

$293K – $385K plus equity.
